in-laws

All of my in-laws live in Brazil.  I haven't seen any of them for almost 2 years.  We get along great, but my husband and I have never lived near them and I honestly don't KNOW them that well.  My mother-in-law lives alone and has always been very supportive of my husband staying here with me, even though she would love to have him back in Brazil.

She never saw me pregnant so I wasn't sure how much she connected with Kayla and her death.  When we sent her box of Christmas presents, I included a photo collage of Kayla, hoping it would make her more real for our Brazilian family.  The don't mention her or ask about our grief (to their credit, I don't try to explain it or bring it up either and we only have weekly phone calls).  So it brought  a few tears tonight when my brother-in-law posted photos of her birthday and I saw she had placed Kayla's collage in her living room.  It means so much to me that they are ok with displaying her pictures and obviously dealing with the conversations that arise with visitors and other family members.  It made me feel loved, and reminded me that they miss Kayla too, even if they are so far away.

  1. When you don't quite know how someone feels and then you get to see something SO wonderful as that...brings tears to my eyes too! So glad you have such wonderful in-laws.
